The naturalistic range of paintings comes directly from Lisa’s interest in animals, especially the vibrant colours and patterns of their hides or plummage and the way they use these to either camoflague themselves in their environments or, conversely, display themselves to intimidate rivals or attract a mate.

The Naturalistic range uses these unique characteristics from each animal and, as with the latest paintings in the Koi range, elevates them to an abstract form.

The original painting in this range was ‘Zebra Triptych’ which featured 3 large oil panels depicting the stripes which are unique to each Zebra.  This style of painting, concentrating on a characteristic of the animal rather than a complete representation of it’s overall appearance, or an animal portrait, has formed one of the mainstays of Lisa’s work since this original painting, with only ‘Tomato Grouper’ and ‘Camelopardalis’ being departures from this pattern of work.
